Our Story

"Timbreroots, [...] one of the most promising local bands of the present day. With their multi-part vocals and the assemblage of a variety of different influences, they build a bridge between yesterday and today." - Backstage - South Tyrol 1 "I have rarely seen such a musical singer live, who also has such excellent vocal control." – Christian Wegscheider (lecturer at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and former pianist of greats such as Udo Jürgens and Michael Bublé) The band, consisting of Benedikt Sanoll (vocals, guitar), Philipp Sanoll (drums), Thomas Vicenzi (bass), Sebastian Willeit (banjo, guitar) and Simon Oberrauch (piano), gained attention with their debut album Numen's Dreams and is planning new releases in 2024. The South Tyroleans have already played on well-known stages such as Rock im Ring, shared the spotlight with bands such as Mainfelt and performed at events such as the closing ceremony of the “FISU World University Championship 2022”. The band also achieved considerable success with second place in the Italian music competition “Music for the next Generation”. Timbreroots' versatile musicality is reflected in their influences from Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, John Butler, Bon Iver, The Lumineers, Ben Howard, Hollow Coves, Jacob Collier and contemporary composers such as Eric Whitacre. Each band member has studied music and brings their own individual influences from classical music to jazz to the band. The band creates a unique atmosphere that captivates the audience. Their familiar interaction with the audience, their charming humor and their down-to-earth presence create the magical "timbre vibe" that allows everyone to feel welcome and secure in a warm community, regardless of background or origin. Bene's dream of founding a band and connecting people through music came true during his studies at the Mozarteum. He brought his brother Philipp, his long-time friend Thomas Vicenzi and his fellow students Sebastian Willeit and Simon Oberrauch on board. The chemistry between the members was immediately noticeable - Sebastian, the guitarist, quickly took over the banjo, while Simon became the band's pianist. The musicians quickly set up an old junk room at Benedikt and Philipp's house as a rehearsal room. This became a creative oasis in which ideas were born and sounds were formed. The first rehearsal in summer 2019 marked the official founding day of Timbreroots. The band is currently working on their next EP or who knows, maybe it will even become a whole album. This promises to be just as epic as their foretaste "Madness", the band's recently released single. Music that inspires people to think consciously but also to consciously switch off. The EP is due to be released in 2025, followed by a tour of various European countries in which the band will perform their music live and bring people together.

Bene

Vocals, Fingerstyle - Guitar, Piano

Born: April 01, 1998 in Bolzano

Benedikt Sanoll, also known as Bene, is the creative head of the band and acts as a singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist. He writes the lyrics and lays the foundations for many of the Timbreroots songs, which are then developed into complete pieces of music together with the other band members.

When Bene takes the stage, it becomes a place of dreams, wishes and emotions for him. Here he uses the power of Timbreroots' spherical music to give even more expression to his profound lyrics and to penetrate directly into the hearts of the listeners.

"Despite all the turbulence in the world, I want to give people the opportunity to put aside their worries and fears for a moment and enjoy the present moment. At the same time, it is important to me to address important ethical and moral issues that are particularly close to my heart and that can potentially help raise awareness of the well-being of all living beings and our environment. These issues are always related to appreciation, charity, joy of life and passion, which I try to convey through the corresponding emotions in my music.

I am neither a politician nor a scientist, but simply a thoughtful and self-reflective person who strives to convey good values without putting myself above other people's opinions. At the same time, I do not want to judge anyone for their actions, as I am not able to understand the background of others or to judge how I would have acted under the same circumstances. I firmly believe that love for one's neighbor is the only force that can overcome the evil in this world. After all, we were all once innocent children who just wanted to be loved, even those people who have only brought bad things to the world. Of course, I also make a lot of mistakes. I think it is important to try to recognize them, admit them, reflect on them and then consciously distance yourself from them. (Bene in one of his first interviews)

Philipp

Percussion, Marimba, Vocals

Born: July 25, 1989 in Bolzano

Philipp, like his brother Benedikt, was born with a love of music. As a small child he played the drums with all kinds of kitchen utensils. When he was in primary school he briefly tried playing the flugelhorn at his father's urging.

However, he noticed early on that his heart belonged solely to the drums. So he took drum lessons at the music school and with various private teachers. As a member of the village's own music band, he had the opportunity to attend further training courses and gain experience in various youth orchestras.

After completing high school for surveyors, he worked for several years as a technical draftsman. However, his passion for music never left him. He enrolled at the Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory in Bolzano and then at the University of Art in Graz to study percussion. Since successfully completing his studies, he has worked as a percussion teacher.

Vinci

electric bass, saxophone, vocals

Born: January 29, 1998 in Bolzano

He had his first musical experiences during early musical education at music school with the recorder.

At the age of 10, he switched to the saxophone, with which he was then accepted into the Kurtatsch music band. He completed the bronze, silver and gold performance badges on the instrument. Later, he also joined a big band and took part in many different projects in the field of brass music. It was not until 2020 that he began studying saxophone at the "Claudio Monteverdi" Conservatory in Bolzano.

His enthusiasm for music arose mainly from brass music, although he was particularly fascinated by playing in an orchestra and the resulting sound possibilities, both then and now.

But rock music also aroused his curiosity. The first band he became interested in was Imagine Dragons.

When he was about 14, he got an old electric bass from his cousin, on which he had his first self-taught experiences as a bassist. After a few basic technical tips from Benedikt, Benedikt asked him during a jam session if he would like to join his band at the time, the "Lowlanders". Of course, he agreed.

Sebi

electric guitar, banjo, vocals

Born: March 31, 1998 in Bolzano

At the age of seven, Sebastian found his father's old guitar in the basement. He was immediately fascinated by the instrument. The following year, his parents enrolled him in the Sarnthein music school. He proudly went to lessons with his father's guitar. He enjoyed making music and took his first steps into the world of music. Sebi made rapid progress on the instrument, as his brother also began to play the guitar and they were able to play music together.

In the years that followed, music and sport were his two great passions. Even though he was no longer practicing as diligently in middle school (puberty) and his instrument was happy to sit in the corner for a while, he still decided to attend the humanistic grammar school "Walther von der Vogelweide" with a regional focus on music. There, his passion was rekindled under his teacher at the time, Thomas Lamprecht, as he learned not only classical pieces, but also various genres. A highlight was the performance with his teacher and his brother as a trio, where they premiered the piece "Sarnthein Schwing". The guitar teacher had composed it especially for the two brothers.

After graduating from high school, Sebi worked as an afternoon supervisor for a year. Since music still played a big role in his life, he decided to prepare for the entrance exam at the Mozarteum Innsbruck to learn the profession of music teacher. He chose "jazz/pop guitar" as his major. At the Mozarteum, he met his future bandmates Benedikt and Simon. Benedikt even became his flatmate. One evening, when they were partying in the Irish pub, Benedikt asked him if he would be interested in learning the banjo so he could play in his band. Sebi said yes without thinking twice. What he didn't expect, however, was that Benedikt would bring a banjo to the flat just a week later. There was no turning back now. From then on, he was part of the band, in which he now happily plays the electric guitar and banjo.

Simon

piano, accordion, synthesizer, vocals

Born: November 30, 1997 in Bolzano

Music was a constant companion in Simon's childhood. At home, there was always a lot of singing and music-making. Even as a small child, his father took him to the rehearsals of the local choir, which he led. At the age of 4, he was very lucky to have piano lessons from a former Berlin conductor who had retired in his hometown. But that was not all; there was a lot of composing, singing and talking about music - without him, his later career might have taken a different direction.

At the age of 6, he switched to music school. While he initially enjoyed the lessons and practiced with great motivation, the static and narrow structures of piano lessons increasingly restricted him and as he grew older, other hobbies such as sports came to the fore, he briefly lost interest in engaging with them more intensively.

His piano teacher at the time managed to get him to practice a little bit by registering him every year for the “prima la musica” competition, which, despite his initial reluctance, was always an exciting experience.

During his time at high school, his attitude changed and he decided that music should play a larger role in his life. He began studying music and instrumental education at the Mozarteum Innsbruck, majoring in piano and music conducting. It was here that he met his two future bandmates Sebastian and Benedikt.

After a year, he added the study of instrumental (vocal) pedagogy with a major in classical piano, which he completed in the summer of 2022. However, right from the beginning of his studies, he noticed that he was also very enthusiastic about jazz and popular music, which is why he also took this course (with a major in jazz piano) on board.

The musical influences that continually inspire him cover a wide range, from Bach and Debussy to Brad Mehldau and Avishai Cohen to Radiohead and Muse.
